I love what I do
When Esther Isaac’s world fell apart, she, “promised God that when He got me through that devastating experience, I would dedicate myself to being an encouragement and ‘listening ear’ to others.”
As Isaac, an optician, neared retirement she spent six months praying for God to lead her to the right local church ministry.
“God clearly showed me that I was to become part of the Women’s ministry,” Isaac said, adding that she, “was very impressed with the younger women running the programs and their dedication to their mission.”
“Without a doubt, mentoring where we share deeply and where I have the privilege of walking along side other women has been most rewarding.”
Initially attracted to Trinity by the Christmas productions and the preaching of pastor Tim, Isaac now had the opportunity to be intimately involved in the spiritual growth of other women.
“I have been honoured to mentor a number of women and encourage them in their Christian growth.”
Isaac took part in Year One of “The Journey,” where she developed her personal vision and mission.
“My desire is to cultivate an intimate relationship with God – allowing His love to transform me into the person He created me to be; to honor Him by being an agent of His grace and truth in the lives of my 3 daughters and their families, and the people God places in my life.”
But the people God placed in Isaac’s life were not all inside the walls of Trinity.
“Being a volunteer at Trinity has, and is, a great experience,” Isaac confirmed,” however, I have always felt that it is good to be involved in the community as well.”
Stressing the importance of prayer in such decisions, Isaac was directed to the regional Canadian Red Cross office.
With the Red Cross Isaac inputs data, writes receipts and acts as a receptionist.
“It’s right up my alley. I love what I do there.”
And while being a blessing for others, Isaac is blessed herself.
“Accepting receipts for the Haiti Earthquake has probably been my best experience there. I was totally amazed at the generous heart of the community and the huge number of donations that we received. We were so overwhelmed with donations, that I worked almost full time for almost a whole month, just taking receipts and doing cash reports.”
The way Isaac sees it, God specifically placed her at the Red Cross, something she does not take lightly.
“It is my responsibility to stick it out, even when the going gets tough and very hectic.”
For others searching for their mission, Isaac believes prayer and patience is the place to start.
“I asked God to enlarge my sphere of influence at Trinity and also in the community. Then I waited until He showed me very distinctly where He wanted me to serve.”
Please pray for Pastor Wayne as he visits our daughter churches in Hermosillo and Tampico, Mexico. Pray for safety, that he would see would God needs him to see and hear what God needs him to hear…and that the stories he would bring back would encourage and spur us all on.
If you haven’t connected with a Fuel Course yet and want to join us, please do!
Wed, Feb.10 - Robert Plante will tell a bit about his story and describe the work he does full-time. Then he will provide participants with some of the Jesus Film training on how to share their story with others.
Wed, Feb.17 – Ordinary Trinity People Living Out the Extraordinary Call of God. Andrew Gibbs will facilitate a panel discussion with several Trinity people and the awesome ways they are serving God. Come to learn and celebrate what God is doing in our midst!
Wed. Feb.24 – ESS Training. Beryl Itani was nicknamed “Kelowna’s Mom” as she led our city through the fires of 2003 and 2009. Beryl volunteers her time as our community’s Emergency Social Services Director. Come to hear a bit of her story and to receive ESS training so that you can be prepared to help the next time our city is in need.
Hope to see you there!
What a privilege to be on the receiving end of so many phone calls and emails from the people of our church asking, “What are we doing for Haiti?”!
This weekend, we will stop and pray corporately for the tragedy there and all the people involved and we also expect to announce this weekend which aid efforts we will be directly supporting.
Please stay tuned and, most of all, please pray.
Just a reminder that this weekend we are having a food drive for the Food Bank!
Just bring your donated items and leave them behind your vehicle in the parking lot. We will then collect them and put them into the Food Bank truck!
Let’s fill that truck this weekend!
A Trinity family is working hard to make a Kelowna neighbourhood a better place for over 50 kids.
Playground Committee member, Deanna Rolston, who attends Trinity with her family, believes that children of Kneller Road need a safe place to play.
Let Them Be Kids has awarded a $10,000 grant, as well as pledged a donation of 40 cents to every 60 cents raised by the Okanagan Housing Cooperative.
Speaking to Rolston, donations and volunteers are still required.
“We need things like cement, timbers and pea gravel. In terms of people, we could use anyone with carpentry skills and some volunteers to help watch the kids during build day so they don’t get in the way of construction.”
A playground had existed in the area in the 1990′s but was torn down due to safety concerns.
Anyone interested in volunteering or donating should call Marie – 250.868.3348 or Pastor Jack McLaughlin – 250.860.3273

Kibera, the largest slum in all of Africa has an estimated population of 1,000,000. Those who call Kibera home live in shacks built of discarded scrap, perched on heaps of garbage, facing rivers of open sewage.
It is here in Kibera, where Sarah Alguire will be working in the Ignite Program with Africa Inland Mission until November 2009. Some of her duties will include tutoring children in grades 1-3, mentoring teenage girls/female staff at one of schools she is working in. She will also serve in a Kibera church helping with youth activities, a youth conference and bible studies.
