We’re now 2 weeks in to our sermon series on Jonah called “One Relentless God” and, as you know, are calling our church to a 3-week OnMission Challenge.  For this challenge, we are inviting you to increase your awareness and sensitivity to the realities of hunger locally and globally.   Then, we will be providing you with tangible opportunities to respond through a compassion offering (Oct.30/31) that will purchase food we will pack into hampers for the Kelowna Food Bank (Nov.6/7).

Will you take the Challenge?

If you subscribe using the link on the left, we will send you daily encouragements throughout the Challenge to educate you and guide you in some reflections.  Through this blog, we also invite you to comment and let us know how it’s going for you.

Most of all, though, it is our prayer that you will know more personally the One Relentless God who pursues you no matter how many wrong turns you have taken or how reluctant you may be.

Trinity is going to Guatemala Spring Break 2011!

Planning is underway for a mission trip, open to Trinity people of all ages and gifts (families are welcome!), for the last two weeks of March next spring. Whether you’re an experienced missionary who has stepped out before or someone who has always thought about it but never taken that step, this trip is an opportunity for you.

If you are interested in this trip, or if you know someone who might be, there will be an information meeting held after each of the services during the October 9-10 weekend, as follows: • Saturday night, 640pm, in the On Mission Centre

• Sunday morning, 1010am, in the On Mission Centre

• Sunday afternoon, 1210pm, in the On Mission Centre

If you can’t make it to one of these meetings feel free to contact Andrew Gibbs at 250-763-6979 or agnomen@shaw.ca.

Help support our youth going to Brazil in spring break 2011 and put dinner on the table too. Medium pizzas are $10 each. Choices include:  Cheese, Pepperoni or Hawaiian. Last day to order pizzas is Wednesday, September 22. Pick up preordered pizzas this weekend (Sept 25/26) after each of the services.

The Trinity Missions Committee has decided to send $5000 through the Salvation Army for aid to the devastation in Pakistan.

There is a perception that, while this disaster is worse that Haiti and the Tsunami combined, it seems to be receiving much less attention.  What are your thoughts about why this is?

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Many of you have already received the sad news of the death of our friend and brother Asah Charles.  Charles was in a serious motor accident in the SW region and was flown to Mbingo hospital.  He died the following week, on Tuesday evening, August 17, 2010, from complications due to the seriousness of the trauma.

Charles first began working for the CBC in 1990 as Assistant to the Field Director.  He later moved to an administrative role with the CBC Health Services Department.  In 2008 he was transfered from Bamenda to Mutengene to assist with managing the Health Service Complex and most recently was on the management team of HESCO Water in Mutengene, SW.

Charles was a young and energetic man, husband and father.  He has left behind his wife Courage, and three children:

  • Fanny – age 14 – entering Form 5 (last year of secondary school)
  • Harry – age 10 – entering Form 1 (first year of secondary school)
  • Bella – age 6 – entering class 3

The tentative plans are for a funeral service to be held at Nkwen Baptist Church, Bamenda on Thursday morning, August 26, after which the body will be taken to the family village near Ndu for a final service and burial.

Please continue to pray for Courage, the children, the extended family and the many friends who are shocked by this death.  If you wish to send words of condolence to Courage and the family and do not have another channel, I and my office are more than willing to serve as your channel.

God’s perfect peace passes all understanding,

Don & Lorraine Karsgaard, two of our very own missionaries, will be in the Trinity foyer this weekend!

Please stop by before or after the service to get a glimpse into the Health Fairs that they provide as part of Mexico Medical Missions and to encourage them as well!

Then, after service, please plan to join them in the Harvest Room to hear stories of how God has been at work through them over the last year.

This summer, God took us to the E.D.G.E. – and we experienced + discovered God everywhere, every way, every day.  We had 310 boys and girls join us on campus, we collected 6100 bottles, cans and tetra paks and raised over $400 – and 11 boys and girls came to Christ.

The volunteers were extraordinary.  Our student leaders were energized.  My Adventureland staff were exceptional.

Thank you for the privilege of loving God, loving others and changing kids’ worlds for Christ.

How much of my money will go directly to impacting children?

What are their administration costs?

Which is the best child sponsorship program?

How can I find out if my money is doing the work I want it to?

These questions (and many more!) are answered through a fantastic award-winning website called Charity Navigator.  While it is limited to American data, it is trustworthy and user-friendly.

At 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, the Regional Waste Reduction Office is challenging the community to participate in the fourth annual Community Twenty Minute Make-Over – a community-wide litter clean-up campaign – to help make the Central Okanagan clean and beautiful. “This event is really a great kick start to Community Clean Up month which runs the entire month of April,” says Waste Reduction Facilitator Rae Stewart. “And it’s so easy to take part. Residents, businesses, community groups and schools are encouraged to take a few minutes at 10 a.m. on April 1 to do a little clean-up in their neighborhoods or place of business. The clean-up could include picking up litter, sweeping a sidewalk, even busting graffiti.”

The church staff will be participating in this to help cleanup our church’s block.  Why not join us in helping make our city cleaner?  Wherever you are, can you take 20mins to contribute to beautifying our community?
